Our Causes + Campaigns

WIMPS, which stands for Working for Inclusive Municipal Policies and Systems, was founded in 2020.

We realized that we could effect real change in our community with just a handful of voices.

Here are the four areas we are currently focused on:

Inclusive Housing

Housing has always been a hallmark of prosperity, therefore has also served as a grand symbol of inequality and a way to separate classes and colors. This campaign aligns with the WIMPS mission because it is at the core of the systems of inequity within Littleton and directly impacts the vibrancy of our community.

Gun Sense Practices

This is not about Littleton becoming anti-gun, it is about keeping Littleton safe. As history of the last few decades has demonstrated no community or group is immune to gun violence. Lack of common-sense gun laws within a community is an equity issue because gun violence disproportionally impacts minority populations.

Without common-sense gun legislation, our current prevention tactics (active shooter drills and increased security measures) can negatively impact our most vulnerable citizens.

Equity in Littleton Public Schools

Littleton Public School systems is responsible for teaching the next generation of Littleton community members. The inclusion and exclusion of the curricular materials has a direct impact on their world views. While we appreciate many of the efforts LPS has put forward to be an inclusive community, including gathering social-emotional data using a system called Panorama, and including that data in the unified improvement plan, there are many current practices that need to examined or updated.

Continuing gender-based/role-based events (ie muffins with mom and father/daughter dance), limiting literature available in classrooms, and attention to House Bill 19-1192, requires that minority history and topics be taught in Colorado schools. If we truly want Littleton to be an inclusive place, we need to be sure that opportunities are equitable. Panorama data shows us that white cis-gender straight students feel a disproportionate sense of belonging as compared to other subgroups.
